Key Performance Areas

  • Conduct industry-specific research and desktop or other forms of feasibility studies on
    potential strategic projects linked to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE)
    tenets and government’s broader economic aims and strategic sector-specific strategies and
    produce various forms of reports and/or presentations;
  • Research content, compile the pertinent documents and represent and profile the company at
    external events, including but not limited to, investor expos and conferences and assist with
    ad hoc SPF capital raising initiatives;
  • Deal sourcing of new strategic potential investments and appraisal of investment proposals
    as well as coordinating and undertaking the due diligence required thereon;
  • Preparation and submission of investment reports to the relevant company Investment
    Committees, including portfolio performance reporting on existing investments;
  • Negotiation of deal terms, investment structures, valuation and legal or other
    documentation of potential investments, including linking such to Foreign Direct Investment
    (FDI), government subsidy funding programs and broader financial market co-funding
    syndications;
  • Project managing the post investment approval implementation of deals through various
    processes or stages of project development involving several activities, including; legal
    process execution and fund disbursement, project scoping, prefeasibility studies, capital
    raising, plant or business facility construction, as well as the structuring, set-up and provision
    of operational company support;
  • Provision of ad hoc assistance to internal and/or external stakeholders, including but not
    limited the following; the office of the CEO, Marketing and Communications, Strategy and
    Planning, the Legal Department, the Post Investment Unit and senior management.

Qualifications, skills and competencies required

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a finance background. An MBA is an added
    advantage.
  • A Project Management diploma or degree
  • Post graduate course or diploma in Finance
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Engineering, Corporate and/or Project Finance, Credit
    Analysis, Private Equity or Structured Finance
  • Strong overall awareness and knowledge of various industry sectors
  • Strong risk analysis skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Must be able to independently develop and/or evaluate financial models
  • Must be familiar with types of agreements/contracts typically used in corporate and project
    finance; and private equity transactions
  • Experience with corporate finance valuation techniques
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of solutions that could impact on the business
  • See applicability of current or emerging technological solutions to the future needs of the
    country
  • Project development and entrepreneurial experience would be advantageous
  • Practical engineering-related experience in relation to the following; technical design
    (technical standards, technical drawings), plant operation and management (plant
    organograms, roles and responsibilities, shift planning, production scheduling), plant
    shutdown maintenance (planning, costing, implementation) and plant construction (tender
    procurement processes and adjudication; and construction contract structures and
    management) would be advantageous
  • Practical Project Management experience would be advantageous
